1. I wish I knew how cheap eating in Hauptbahnhof could be
I mean its okay to go eat at a restaurant and treat yourself to a nice meal every once in a while but not every single day and not on Munich's most expensive restaurants. My first week here I went on my 45 minute break to have lunch with my friends in a traditional bavarian restaurant in Marienplatz. It was delicious but 22 euros for a schnitzel is outrageous. Little did I know that I could have easily gotten something pretty similar for less than 3 euros in Hauptbahnhof Central Station. If you're hungry and don't have that much time to eat, don't go to Mc Donalds. REWE To Go in Hauptbahof is the cheapest you can get and since its like a mini market they sell everything. They even have a pretty good salad bar and of course the traditional bavarian foods. You can get a pretty decent meal for 5 euros only. Opens 24/7!
2. I wish I knew how to move around using the google maps App
If I got lost I usually used the maps App on my iPhone to find the street I was looking for. Who knew that if you entered the place you wanted to go to in the google maps App it would literally tell you exactly how to get there. What I mean its that the App would display different options on how to get somewhere, which U-bahn or S-bahn to take and where the nearest location would be. No more struggling to find the correct train, literally the app would tell you which train and in which direction to take it. #lifesaver
3. I wish I knew how difficult it is to find an apartment in the city center
I knew it would be a challenge to find one, but I never anticipated that it would take me 3 months to do so. I though that I was going to be able to find one in a month but that was clearly not the case. At one point we gave up and decided to continue looking after the holidays but thanks god we didn't because living with a host family sucks. My best advice is to just keep looking every single day on every single platform possible. Immobilen websites, Student Accommodation websites, the newspaper, and even on Facebook. Its literally easier to find a job than to find a place to live in Munich.
4. I wish I knew the cheaper alternatives to shop for stuff
So the problem was spending too much money in food, so when I was able to cook in my host family's kitchen I started to do some food shopping. I went to the first supermarket I found which later I found out it was the most expensive one. I also bought some kitchen ware in the Galeria Kaufhof when I could have gotten the same things in the Euro shop. But now I know not to do so ever again!
